Thomas Henry Shadwell Clerke1 to Faraday   Between 1830 and 1849

Athenaeum | 7th May

My dear Sir

I am deputed as a member of the Council of the United Service Museum to petition for an intention of your espirit de Corps (for your Woolwich Commission renders you to all intents and purposes an United Service man) to that Institution in the shape of a Lecture of your own selection and on any day and hour most convenient to yourself within the next fortnight.

I hope your many and various occupations may permit you on this occasion to fulfil so appropriate a part of your professional duties as teaching the young military idea how to shoot.

Believe me | Very Faithfully Yours | T.H. Shadwell Clerke

Thomas Henry Shadwell Clerke (1792–1849, ODNB). Army officer and military journalist.
