Edward Forbes1 to Faraday   Between 1846 and 1854

Saturday Mg | 6 Craig’s Court | Charing Cross.

My dear Sir

I send this with a messenger to ask a favour - if I may venture to do so. I know not whether strangers are admitted to the afternoon lecture at the R. Inst but venture to enquire. Three friends from a far distance in the country, two of them of literary distinction (Dr & Mrs Hodgson2) are extremely anxious if possible to hear you during their visit to London. Can they possibly be admitted to today’s lecture? If contrary to rule pardon my ignorance & boldness in asking[.]

Ever, My dear sir | Most truly yours | Edward Forbes

M. Faraday Esq.

Edward Forbes (1815–1854, ODNB). Palaeontologist at the Geological Survey.
The political economist William Ballantyne Hodgson (1815–1880, ODNB) and Jane Eleanor Hodgson, née Cox (d.1860, age 45, SRO) who married in 1841.
