John Tyndall to Jane Barnard   Undated

Thursday

My dear Miss Barnard

What you said to me on Friday night was dictated by the spirit of knowledge & goodness. I did not receive your aunt’s note for several hours after it was written, and then on enquiry I found that she was at dinner and I had to run away. I know by experience how disagreeable it is to be afflicted with visits when the head is tired and therefore I shrunk from disturbing her.

I have to ask your forgiveness for being the cause of so much trouble to your aunt & to yourself.

Believe me | Yours very sincerely | John Tyndall
