From Thomas Bell 11 August

The Athenaeum

August 11

My dear Henslow

I have just been to Soho Square, and have looked over the specimens with Dennett. I think the best plan will be for Dr Curtis of Alton to meet you there on Friday, to select what he would want for the Alton Museum with you - and I think there will be enough for both - but the Museum must according to the Council minutes must be first served. Then comes Mr Peckover for another County Mus. but he will satisfied with the pickings left after Ipswich & Alton are served - now about the packing. I think this must be deferred until you two have made your selections when a packet can easily be procured - but at present I don't know one. I think the Armadillos should be divided betn. you & Curtis - but all this you & he can agree upon. I shall write to him by this post. I rejoice to hear so good an account of the School feast.

I left Mrs Bell somewhat better yesterday morning than she had been since we returned to Selborne on Tuesday. I go down on Thursday afternoon. Give my kind regards to Darwin & Mrs Darwin & the children

Believe me always

Every yours truly

T. Bell
