My dear Sir,

I must apply for another pennyworth of information. Can you give me any information about your Neuropteris Loskii plate 49 which if correct, is, as Sternbergh says "a N. L. Brongniartiani distinctissima. Now I have before me specimens from Felling Colliery which approach Brongniart's pl.72. fig.1. very closely but do not at all correspond to your fig. There is a sort of stiffness about the fig. which makes me suspect it was not drawn by a botanical eye, & that it has been somewhat beautified. Have you a fragment of the species which you can let me see. There seems to be a mess about these species which I can't quite unravel without authenticated specimens - your N. heterophylla of plate 183 seems very difft. from those at 197 & 200 & is not referred to at the latter places. I am longing for your named specimens to clear away a few other doubtful points.

Yrs very truly
