To William Hutton 24 October 1840

Hitcham Hadleigh Suffolk

24 Oct 1845

My dear Sir,

In the course of last summer I went over all the fossil plants I had here with C. Bunbury (who is brother in law of Lyell) as he had a notion of taking up the subject. He has now fully made up his mind to do this & being a good botanist & excellent draughtsman with every facility for carrying on the study, he wishes me to communicate with you on the subject. I mentioned to him what you told me of your readiness to furnish material to anyone who who [sic] engaged to publish them and if you are still of the same mind perhaps you will write to him on the subject. He lives in a large rambling house with several empty rooms capable of holding any amount of specimens. He is the eldest son of Sir H. Bunbury of Barton near Bury, a wealthy Baronet. Having no particular occupation, & having eschewed all idea of becoming a public man, he is exactly the person to take up Fossil Botany. His address is C. Bunbury Esqr. Mildenhall, Suffolk

Believe me

very truly yrs
