To J. F. W. Herschel 10 November 1849

Hitcham Hadleigh Suffolk

10 Novr 1849

My dear Sir,

The very great merit of Mr G. Ransome, Secrety. to the Ipswich Museum - has induced some well-wishers to that establishment to raise a fund by subscriptions of 10/6 for a lithograph portrait of him by Maguire - & Mr L. Reeve has undertaken to see the copies offered to subscribers - & to pay over any surplus to the Museum - ever so well deserving of general encouragement. I hardly know whether you are sufficiently acquainted with the exertions of Mr R. to feel inclined to unite in this scheme. Airy's lectures to the Museum Soc. are just out & I brought away a copy from Ipswich yesterday. We are expecting a large party to assemble at the Museum on the Anniversary next month & Owen is to deliver a lecture on the occasion.

Yrs very truly

J. S. Henslow
