To Charles R. Bree 22 July 1851

Hitcham

22 July 1851

My dear Bree,

Thanks for the eggs which are clearly distinct from those in my nest. As you know them to be S. Phrags. mine must therefore be S. arundinacea - which is (I believe) the rarer species & so much the better for the Ipswich Mus. Thanks for the correction. Many thanks also for the Moths &c. I will return the boxes tomorrow, as we pass thro' Stowmarket in our way to Norwich. I hope the Blackguards of Stowmarket will be more civil to our country folks this time than they were last year - for though some of us are protectionists, there are more that are not, & I don't suppose your free-traders can distinguish at a glance which is which - at least their clods & stones cannot! I have put up the little flower-feeding moth from you. What is it? I hear of nothing but perfect satisfaction with the results of the Hort Show. I sent you 2/6 from Calvert who said it was a bet about Anglesea paints. Many thanks for the trouble you took about yr prizes. Is it likely another year the Stowmarket Society would allow some of our Allottees to compete for their prizes for good cultivation?

Ever Yrs truly

J. S. Henslow
