To Charles R. Bree 3 May 1854

D. C. Camb.

3 May 1854

My dear Bree,

I should not have time to diverge to Coombs on Saturday if Mr W. is anxious to see me we can either meet as I pass thro' Stowmarket or at Hitcham. The trains are so very uncertain that it has become impossible to fix times. I was 1 3/4 hours behind time in coming here on Monday! I propose starting by the Train on Saturday which professes to get to Stowmarket a little before 12.

My mother will not like to live in a house that is at all lonely if such should be the case at "White Elms". I have a friend in the college, formerly in the Army & now reading for orders, named Garland, who is very devoted to Natural history, & has a collection of Eggs at his home in Dorsetshire (I. of Purbeck). I told him I would ask you to introduce him to the party who possesses eggs of the Tree Sparrow of which he has only foreign specimens. As he procures eggs of seabirds it is possible he might be able to negotiate an exchange of eggs. I fancy he is not likely to be able to assist your collection, but you might send him a list of your desiderata at a venture - enclosing it to me. The more birds of a feather are brought together, the better.

Yrs very truly
