To George Knights 8 September 1854

Hitcham, Hadleigh, Suffolk

8 Sept 1854

My dear Sir,

We have accidentally omitted all reference to the 6th (Anorthic) System! It would be as well if you tested my notices by reference to the very objects in the Museum - for not having them immediately under my eye it is wonderful how absurd omissions may creep in. It will be as well to head the next notice by the following

"In noticing the Symbols used for the six systems of crystals, the Anorthic System has been accidentally omitted last week.

Those who keep the notices had better be supplied with the following connected reference which can replace the one containing the omission"

(1) Crystallographic Systems

Cubic &c (as last week)

Anorthic - Purple - S

(N.B. The Chronicle has accidentally spelt crystallographic with an k (ckrystc)

Thanks for ordering the 150 checks.

I shall prefer your advice about getting the ornamented cards from London.

I should like 50 "Extra Prize" cards printed with respect to the Nos I must make out a list of what are wanted & make up my mind about having them printed

As I have no copy of the ornamented card, would you be so good as to send it to Shaw & Son with my request that they would send 100 for me to H. Webb Esqr 13 Clements Inn who will pay for them, & forward them by my son who will come there next Wednesday. They may be labelled

For Revd. Prof Henslow

Care of H. Webb Esq

13 Clements Inn

To be left till called for on Wednesday

I am giving you a great deal of trouble, but I believe you are inclined to assist in this sort of work, & I have my hands so full that I am glad to get a little help. I want to show a small lithographic stone with a drawing on it. I have a plain one - perhaps you could borrow one for me & I wd return it after the Show.

Very truly Yrs

J. S. Henslow
