To George Knights 31 March 1855

Hitcham Bildestone Suffolk

31 March 1855

My dear Sir,

I returned home last night. My specimens have travelled so far without a single specimen having become detached, & I hope and trust now they will get as safely to Paris. I find they have quite satisfied those who have inspected them. Thinking the enclosed may be of some use in suggesting rules for your Ipswich Club I send it. This Soc. has been got together by 2 Cambridge friends living in Purbeck - who constituted themselves a Committee, applied to a few neighbours & the thing was done. I suppose I must come over on the 10th to preside at Sidney's lecture, & hope to have ready the rest of Darwin's Barnacles, which I picked up in London. Mr King has written a very obliging letter to say that he intends to send me the Chronicle gratis in consideration of &c &c &c The experience which the last 6 weeks very hard work has given me will enable me (I trust) to prepare a Carpological series for Ipswich which will prove educationally effective. In the printed catalogue they have assigned my specimens to a position among surgical instruments! Under the head Carpological Apparatus! But Dr Playfair says he will see this error corrected, & that they shall be placed among objects intended for Educational purposes - next to something prepared by Prof. Willis of Cambridge. I am also designated as Prof Henslow Hadleigh! - So easily are blunders committed

Yours very truly

J. S. Henslow
