To George Knights 30 May 1855

Hitcham, Hadleigh, Suffolk

30 May 1855

My dear Sir,

I have returned the proof of the plants (forwarded with this from Cambridge) to Mr Cowel's office. I find I shan't be able to come to Ipswich tomorrow - we have a case of Birth concealment which takes me to Hadleigh. A vile woman married to a Farmer's steward has to all appearance contrived more than once to procure the death of her children to save the herself the trouble of bringing them up. In this case the full grown child has been found & her husband declares he did not know she had been with child!!!

Yrs very truly

J. S. Henslow

I now hope to get over next week
