To George Knights 4 July 1855

My dear Knights

I did not get the plant list corrections after all. Are you sure I had the previous notices. I can't find any (at the moment) between (Species 217 & 324) but may have mislaid them, & if I have had them they will turn up.

You will receive a visit from Mr Cobbold to enquire about Apatite, & I have told him to ask you to show him

  • 1. The Epitome (No 34) & the small specimen at Species 314.
  • 2. Any larger specimens in Gallery - but especially the Phosphorite of Estramadura.
  • 3. Brooke's Mineralogy pp. 487 488, where the localities of the mineral are mentioned, especially Daubeny's analysis of the Estramadura phosphorite.

Yrs very truly

J. S. Henslow

P.S. I have a letter today from an unknown correspondent asking me to forward an order to which of the Ipswich papers I patronise! For all copies containing my notices. But I return it telling him to choose for himself between Conservative & Radical as science knows no politics. It may be a hint against considering communication unnecessarily. I am afraid my Hort Show will occupy too much time in preparation this week to allow of my sending a Notice but I will try.
