To George Knights 17 January 1856

H.B.S.

17 Jany 1856

My dear Knights,

When you said Ld A. H. had fixed on Feb. 5. I did not recollect it was the day on which I had engaged to lecture on Phosphate of Lime - but so be it. This will release me for the year & I have now only to lecture at Bury on March 4. I see the Bury Post says Feb. 4 - but I have written to say there is some error as I certainly fixed for March 4 - & I must be at Ipswich on Feb. 5 to preside for Ld A. H. I hope another year the Lecture committee will be a little more precise in their arrangements for it is a bother to begin preparing materials for a lecture & then to be told they are not wanted. This has now happened twice! for Jany 22 & Feb. 4. In March I have to examine at Cambridge which will interfere with any lecture then - but I shall be able, I trust, to keep my promise to Sidney of presiding on April 1t when he comes to us.

Very truly yrs

J. S. Henslow

I will write to Mr Deane as he expects me to be with him on 22d, & say that I am not coming.
