To George Knights 16 February 1856

Hitcham, Bildeston, Suffolk

16 Feb 1856

My dear Knights,

I think if the enclosed were printed & distributed it would be useful at & after my lecture. It need not have any printers flourishes of large type here & small type there, to take up space; but it may be arranged simply as I have written it in a sort of handbill form. If you think the funds can't afford it we must do without, but if they can I feel satisfied it will give an opportunity of showing all willing to learn how very simple chemical symbols & mineral nomenclature really are. We come to Ipswich on Monday evening - so that I shall be at the Museum soon after breakfast on Tuesday morning, by when (no doubt) a proof could be ready. I have been preparing a set of illustrations & analyses all the week several of which I shall bring with me. I have written to Mr Wiggin, as I think he may be willing to assist with an expt or two likely to excite attention & give interest. I find I have 3 more lectures, & an examination at Cambridge to get thru' before the dawn of March 5. Have you heard anything of Sidney's favouring us on April 1t? I heard a rumour that perhaps he wd not be able to come because the Duke of Cambridge was likely to preside at some meeting in favour of [illeg.] on that appropriate day. I hope this is not true both for the sake of Ipswich & the credit of our worthy friend!

Very truly yrs
