To George Knights 28 June 1856

Hitcham, Bildeston, Suffolk

28 June 1856

My dear Knights,

Can you help me to a few objects for the Marquee Museum July 16? I have an Elephant's Skull which (after exhibition) may be transferred to Ipswich. I should like to exhibit the Chimpanzee.

  • (Kinds - Reptiles - Fish) I have nothing new to show a few striking specimens wd be useful.
  • In Miscellaneous, a Russian weapon or so.
  • I have a good set of articles to show the manufacture of Hats this time

If you think of anything & will send me a list, I can insert the objects in my Programme which ought to go to press before Saturday (say by Thursday).

On July 22 I come over to the Pupil Teacher examination. On July 24 to the Archaeological meeting, & go on to London that night.

I must begin to think about our summer excursion, & should like to know whether the Railway Authorities are willing to accommodate my village folks as cheaply as heretofore. Our funds are in arrears & we must pause a year if we cannot be allowed as cheap as heretofore - but if we can I hope to take them to Norwich. Can you tell me who I ought to write to? I suppose the Station Master or Manager at Ipswich. Who he may he be now? Mr Darling or who? Would it be best to write to Mr Cobbold, or has he no longer any power in such matters. I hope you all got home safely on Friday & that you procured plants & Insects enough to satisfy them for coming over. Were the 2 or 3 new ones members of the Club, or only joined it for the excursion's sake? I should like to know their names - King was one I think you said another was Dicks

Yrs very truly
