To George Knights 27 October 1856

Hitcham, Bildeston, Suffolk

27 October 1856

My dear Knights,

A letter from Rigaud this morning says Mr Cobbold is going to ask Mr Austin to preside at my Lecture on the 4th. I enclose the Programme, which looks more formidable on paper than I trust it will prove in digesting it. I shall explain why I wish it all to appear at the Lecture, & advise those who care for the Science of common things, to look into it at their leisure. As I go to Cambridge on Wednesday you had better send me the proof there, addressed to Downing College Cambridge. You must send the M. S. with it, or I may be at a loss. If it won't conveniently get into one side of a sheet the size of a play-bill it can be printed on both sides. Then the best way would be to give the Materials on one side & the Processes on the other. I leave Cambridge for home on Saturday morning. You will probably be able to get this printed in time for Wednesday's post at latest. You will have to borrow the letters for the symbols as before.

Yrs truly

J. S. Henslow

I don't leave on Wednesday till after post comes in - so if you can reply by return I shall get yr letter here.
