To George Knights 20 August 1857

20 Aug 1857

My dear K,

Another pressing letter from Sidney who wants me to fix a day for Sudbury. I tell him, & Mr Jones of Bury, that I cannot fix for an exchange till I see my way clearly, by having all the possible days for exchanges before me from Ipswich, Sudbury & Bury. Besides home engagements I shall have to deliver 7 lectures between 1t Oct & 1t March in places out of Hitcham, & I have engagements to attend to in Hitcham - meetings & parties I must not neglect. It is therefore no easy matter to steer clear of clashes which may compel me to abandon some of my engagements or else put me to great inconvenience. Be so good, therefore, as soon as you can make the Committee sensible of this to let me have the list of the days on which it is possible for me to effect exchanges, or I must confine myself to two lectures, or drop the idea of exchanging altogether. I am quite willing to do all I reasonably can, but I must not be too much worried about these matters or I risk getting ill again.

Yrs very truly
