Hitcham B. Suff.
9 Decr 1858
My dear Knights,
I can't procure at Bildeston the small kind of sugarplums called "Carraway Comfits". Would it be giving you too much trouble to procure me about the value of 1/6 worth, & forward them by Webb on Saturday, as I want them for Monday's lecture on Umbellifers. I mean the kind in which the Carraway is first coated with sugar & not the other kind in which it is thickly coated & which won't do for my purpose. There are 3 or 4 other objects I would like to procure if readily obtainable viz. seeds (as they are called) of Dill & Fenugreek packets of about 2 or 3 oz. or as much as wd fill an oz. phial. Then, of drugs a small lump of Assafoetida, Sagapenum, Galbanum, Ammoniacum, Opoponax (all umbellifers) might be obtained at the Chemists I dare say. I am making up a little collection of these but of illustrations for Hitcham. I have them in my Cambridge Museum but can't reach them there. What week, & early days, in Jany will best suit for my 1t lecture? Wednesday, Thursday or Friday are the days I prefer - & certainly not a Monday or a Saturday. Will you some convenient opportunity show the memo at the back of the enclosed bill to Messrs Miller & settle the a/c for me, & let me have it any time, & book me to repay you when we meet or add it to the Umbellifer a/c & I can send the whole. I can't well forward so small a sum in a cheque.
Yrs very truly
