To George Knights 20 September 1858

My dear Knights,

Will you be so good as to let Mr Jones (Secy to the Athenaeum) know what I can't tell him. As I do not mean to make any more exchanges, it strikes me the ancient Museum Lectures may either merge into the Mechanics or be advertised by short desultory notices. If I can, I shall hope to offer 2 lectures to the Town from myself - but I have not been able to secure materials during the past summer, & hardly know what I can prepare, or for whom. I find I cannot conveniently pre-determine long before hand my opportunities for lecturing, & that 2 at Ipswich, one at Hadleigh, one at Bildeston (& for this year) one at Sudbury will be as much as I can undertake. I think I shall send some notice to the papers, to recommend a modification of the Mus. Lectures. If the committee choose to pay Mr Hawkins well & good - otherwise his offer might be named to the Mechanics Institute.

Yrs very truly
