My Dear Henslow
Have you seen the Cambridge translation of Zchokke's Goldmakers Village? The writer had industry in view [illeg.] and his origin in the Steinthal - and the work, although very Utopian, and not applicable in all cases to the English state of things, would make a capital peg, on which to hang a good leading article about the situation of the labourers - that but means preparing it - allotments &c.
These things are known so much more in your way than mine that I wish very much I cd coax you to write it for me. It would not be otherwise than anonymous, like other leading articles, but would probably take more opportunity as an instructive affair. In my part I would willingly take the responsibility of your opinions - only you need not - mix up politics with comment.
If you have not got the book I will send it to you. Just tell me. I think it would be a pity for one so [illeg.] and skillful as you in these things not to give what effort is possible to Zchokke's beautiful story.
Yrs truly
John Lindley
