To Thomas Anderson 22 September 1860

H.B. Ipswich

22 Sep 1860

My dear F.

Mr Growse's youngest son sails in about a fortnight for Bombay. You know he was a distinguished Classic at Oxford having taken high honours. He will never make a Rector as he has a cracked voice, & tho' tall with an incipient yellow beard, he cannot be called of commanding aspect, & like yourself is q.s. shortsighted. He is a very deserving young fellow, & came out 2nd at the Civil Service E.I. examination, & has (I understand) been appointed to a good post. I promised to speak to Dr Anderson & Joseph about him as he will be glad of introductions in a strange land. But I don't know whether the former is at Kew still, & I trust the latter is safe in or near Syria by this time. If Dr A. is at Kew, you can hand over this letter to him, if not will you forward it, & it will show him what I am desirous of procuring for Mr Growse viz a few introductions. I have known him from the day I frightened him by wearing an ugly mask when he came onto the lawn quite a child, & can speak most decidedly to his amiable & studious disposition. Love to the h's

Ever affcy yrs
