From C. C. Babington 22 December 1857

St John's College

22 Dec. 1857

Dear Henslow

Preston is all right. He is a B. A. of Eman. Coll., F. C. P. S., and Associate of the [illeg.]. He was first in the Nat. Sc. Tripos and has been deputed by the Council of the Philos. Soc. to examine and set to rights the Lepidoptera in its Museum. This much wanted doing & Preston is well qualified to do it and liberal enough to add greatly to the collection. It was not likely that L. Jenyns should know anything about him - how should he - but I should have thought that the deputation from the Philosophicl would have been sufficient. I hope that he will tell all that he knows about the specimens in question. I have some idea that they came from you - is it not so?

Preston is now away for a few days and therefore he will learn by your letter as soon as by any mode that I can employ.

Yours Truly

Charles C. Babington
