My dear Henslow

Oh you have sent me a letter of sorrow! May God in mercy

to you spare your dear Wife & restore her to her sorrowing family! If such be not His will, may you all have strength to [illeg.] the present grief as Christians ought to do, & to say in your hearts, what Christ said in his agony, “not my will but His be done!” I have nothing better to say— It may be God’s will to visit your house with a great affliction: but your hearts will find comfort; for yours will be a sorrow suffered & sanctified by Christian hope — May God bless you & your children Give my best love to them all I shall wait for another letter with heartfelt anxiety

Ever your affectionate old friend | A Sedgwick
