Higginson, Thomas Roberts to Tyndall, John Ginty   Tuesday night, Dec. 23rd. 1840

Castlemartyr,1 Tuesday Night

Dec. 22nd. 1840

My dear Walter2

In considering on the subject of going to Cork on Friday, we have come to the conclusion that it would be a cold Christmas to us a lot of strangers in a strange place, –beside it would be attended with a good deal of heavy expense which in the end would produce no comfort – Another argument – We have a particular desire that you, Ginty, Evans, and Tidmarsh shall spend that day with me, Wright, Holmes and Higginson – here in Castlemartyr. We will give you a good round of beef – a good rice pudding – a couple of tumblers of punch plenty of tea and coffee and a comfortable turn in. We can then go up to Cork on Saturday morning and return when we Choose. Now Walter I know you are not altogether a man what will be obstinate like Ould Davy3 – so agree to this our proposal and invitation. I know you and Ginty will come and also Tidmarsh. If Jimmy4 shows any signs of disapprobation, castigate him à la Sam Weller.5 I mean to say à la Higginson.

Don’t forget to let us have a line by return

In Haste | Wat | farewell

till Thursday night when we will expect you

John Roberts | Thos. Higginson | G. H. Wright | & Geo. Holmes
