From E. D. Steuart   February 17thh 1845

Steuart Lodge | February 17th 1845.

John,

Yesterday morning the drawing arrived1 – and I lose no time in offering you our best thanks for it, and also for your prompt compliance with our wishes: We are however very sorry that you took so much trouble with the sketch, as a rough pencil one would have answered the purpose equally well

I received the Newspaper2 you so kindly sent, and read with great interest the account of the meeting held on the rail road question. I feel quite anxious for the success of the ‘West Yorkshire’3 and shall watch the Newspapers for information on the subject. Your letter of the 10th4 was very satisfactory, as it explained much I was wishing to learn, though I would rather you had been more explicit with respect to your own affairs and prospects – I ventured a hint through your Father5 a short time since relative to any savings you have been able to lay aside, and I expect you will agree with me in thinking it would be desirable to secure such sum, in such a way that you might call upon it at any time you pleased, and receive interest for it until then, I mentioned the Loan Bank here, as offering a safe deposit, and 5 per cent interest, but there are many other ways of securing your money, which you perhaps might prefer.

With very kind wishes | Your sincere friend | E.D. Steuart
