I send you the 2nd part of Clausius.2 and with it a ‘notice’ on an experiment of Thomsons which appears in Pogg No. 9.3
I introduced the word ‘not’ with a query in the translation of the 1st part.4 in the errata which accompanies the 2nd part this error is also noticed – The ? and the ( ) may therefore be omitted.
At the bottom of page 505 he speaks of the ‘Nebenannahme’ – I have now translated this ‘incidental assumption’, would you be kind enough to introduce the same expression in the 1st part, as the mind will be led thereby to connect both at once.
In the first part I fear I have introduced ‘steam’ inadvertently in some places where the vapour of water would be better as the former suggests the notion of the boiling point being already attained while no such limitation is made by Clausius. Could it not be altered? –
In the ‘notice’ you will perhaps be kind enough to make the necessary references to the Phil. Mag.5
I shall now commence Plückers memoir6 and hope to be able to send it to you soon.
