Marburg April 2 – 1851

Dear Sir,

I send you the paper of Clausius, and for the sake of completeness another short one from the same pen1 which appeared in the same number of the Annalen – If you don’t want the letter dann Schadet es nichts.2 Should you find occasion to write to me within the coming 11 days your letter will reach me in Marburg.3 Should you wish to write afterwards it will be best to address to the care of Prof. Knoblauch 23 Poststrasse Berlin.

most faithfully yours | John Tyndall.

paper of Clausius … another short one … pen: R. Clausius, ‘Ueber das Verhalten des Dampfes bei der Ausdehnung unter verschiedenen Umständen’, and ‘Ueber den theoretischen Zusammenhang zweier empirisch aufgestellter Gesetze über die Spannung und die latente Wärme verschiedener Dämpfe’, Poggend. Annal., 82:2, 1851, pp. 263–73 and 274–9. The former was published as ‘On the Deportment of Vapour during its Expansion under different circumstances’, Phil. Mag., 1:5 (May 1851), pp. 398–405. The ‘short one’, part of an ongoing exchange between Clausius and Thomson, was not printed in the Phil. Mag.

dann Schadet es nichts: no harm done (German).

reach me in Marburg: Tyndall left Marburg en route to Berlin on 18 April.
