To Emil du Bois-Reymond   Wednesday1

Queenwood, Stockbridge | Wednesday

My dear DuBois

Have you given up the Isle of Wight? If so I regret it. I am so deeply plunged in business here that I cannot break loose. It would afford me great pleasure to get a sight of you for there are many points over which I should like to talk with you; but if the fates rule it otherwise I must be content

ever sincerely Yours | John Tyndall

Dr Dubois Reymond

[12 or 19 May 1852]: du Bois-Reymond arrived in England on 26 April and left London, for the Lake District and then Hamburg, on 27 May (letters 0622, n. 4 and 0626, n. 8). The first mention of the Isle of Wight in extant letters is letter 0626 (7 May). This letter reads as a successor rather than predecessor to 0626; Wednesday 12 May would allow more time than 19 May for du Bois-Reymond to travel to both the Isle of Wight and Queenwood.
