Sir,
I have the honour of acquainting you that you were on Thursday last1 elected a fellow of the Royal Society, in consequence of which the statute requires your attendance for admission on or before the 4th Meeting from the day of your election, or within such further time as shall be granted by the Society or Council, upon cause shewed to either of them; otherwise your election will be void.
You will therefore be pleased to attend at eight of the clock in the evening on one of the following days,2 viz: –

C R Weld: Charles Richard Weld (1813–69) was assistant secretary and librarian of the Royal Society, 1843–61. He received an initial salary of £200 and accommodation on the premises.
President of the Royal Society: William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse. After transcribing the letter from Weld into his journal, Tyndall further noted: ‘Accompanying the secretary’s note came the following card’.
