Dear Tyndall,

I hope to be myself in Dublin on Monday next – if I had one or two more of your testimonials2 I might be able to dispose of them beneficially – if you send them here and write ‘to be forwarded’ on them they will be sent on to my address.

farewell | Most truly yours | Geo. Wynne

[August– early September 1852]: date is uncertain. Wynne was involved in promoting Tyndall’s application for the position at Galway. Wynne became involved at the very end of June (see Journal, 28 June 1852, JT/2/13b/572–3); the application was submitted (to Dublin) well before 26 August 1852 (letter 0654, n. 1); and a decision was made in late October (letter 0679). We believe the letter probably dates to late August or early September, although a date between late July and late September is possible.

your testimonials: the testimonials Tyndall submitted with his application. Many had been acquired for his earlier application for a position at the University of Toronto.
