To Thomas Archer Hirst   31st Dec. 1852

Manchester 31st Dec. 1852

My dear Tom.

I will not delay letting you know that the thermo-Säule has reached Queenwood safely, not in company with but after your letter1 – I am so split up in the hubble bubble of Manchester2 that I can scarcely say anything else. I will write to you at length in a few days – one thing presses upon me and that is that you may be hampering yourself as regards money matters. – I shall endeavour before I leave Manchester to arrange some way of transmitting funds to you and within the coming three weeks hope to make a large breach in your account against me.3 Have patience with me until my thoughts tranquilize a little and then I will write you a letter full of all the melodies I can collect.4

Your affectionate Brother, | John
