From Henry Bence Jones   March 8. 1853

Dear Dr Tyndall

Very many thanks for your very friendly letter.1 I quite agree with you that no public answer at present should appear. I must hear what DuBois2 thinks. I have told him that it is important to his interests here that nothing should be done rashly. I left out very much that was far more abusive of Matteucci than the passage which has angered him.3

If you have Müller’s Bericht 1851 p778 you will see what I consider far more personal.4

I shall send the page to Matteucci as my answer.

Thanks for the offer of a notice in Phil. Mag. I think not at present. Nothing new here at present

Believe me | Yours most truly | H. Bence Jones

DuBois: Emil du Bois-Reymond.

passage which has angered him: Matteucci was upset by an abstract of du Bois-Reymond’s work written by Müller. He had written to Bence Jones about this in late February (see letter 0724).
