My dear Tom
I received your note2 this morning – I have now only time to request you to order the Sirene at 32 Th.3 for me: – I hope Herr Sauerbach will prove himself a punctual man: there are many other things I should like to have and within the coming week I will write to you again.4 Things are still in such an indefinite state that I hardly like to write to you about them. It is very probable that this is my last half year at Queenwood –: if Edmondson is wise his course is very clear – he ought to strive to get you in my place,5 but to this bargain there are two parties and I dont know what you are going to say to the proposal. As yet however we are in the land of conjecture but a very few weeks will reveal all and shew us the path we ought to follow.
affectionately | John

[5–6 April 1853]: as Hirst dated this letter as ‘April 1853’, it was possibly written sometime between 5 and 6 April, though this is an uncertain estimate.
your note: letter missing.
Order … 32 Th.: see letters 0733, n. 8 and 0735.
write to you again: likely letter 0743.
in my place: Tyndall is referring to his position at Queenwood, and is suggesting that Hirst take it over after his departure to either the RI or the LI (see letters 0742 and 0746, n. 8).
