To George Gabriel Stokes   13th June 1853

My dear Sir

I have before me a work of high repute in Germany entitled Die Beugungs Erscheinungen aus den Fundamentalgesetzen der Undulationstheorie analytisch entwickelt by F.M. Schwerd.1 I do not think it has yet been introduced into England – It is a most valuable work and if a translation has not yet appeared I would make arrangements for its publication in the next number of the Scientific Memoirs.2 Would you kindly inform me3 whether you have ever seen a translation of the work?

Believe me | most faithfully yours | John Tyndall

Die … Schwerd: see letter 0763, n. 9.

Scientific Memoirs: though note that Tyndall determined to withdraw himself as an editor of future volumes of the Scientif. Mem. (see letter 0771).

kindly inform me: reply is missing.
