To Thomas Archer Hirst   26th June. 1853

Queenwood 26th June. 1853

Bother! Bother! Bother! Tom my muddled pate1 is hardly able to fix upon a line of procedure. One thing is certain however, in England I must remain until after the 6th of July, perhaps three or 4 days longer – On the whole the best plan is as follows. I will see you in England, but dont keep me waiting I will wait till the 10th but dont push me much beyond it. I will go straight to Berlin and visit Paris2 on my return. – I dont want to spend a week with you in England – a day will suffice to pour into you a concentrated extract of my experiences in Queenwood which you will find a salutary moral medicine and useful for your future guidance.3 I want to talk to you both about principal4 and boys. Wont you accompany [Stevens]5 to Cambridge and see Stokes & Caley,6 you must see Sylvester. Thomson is in Malta! I would accompany him everywhere if I were you – it will be a useful introduction for yourself to many people. Now the thing I hope is settled – I will see you either in London or here. If you can manage to be in London on the 10th I will be there & you may see me off.

Yours as usual | John

I hope you will get that paper7 translated for me.
