Universitäts Strasse 4. | 13th Aug.
My dear Tom
I wrote to you yesterday1 requesting you to send me £10. one half to Berlin and the other half to Marburg. I made this arrangement intending to leave some instruments I had ordered2 unpaid for: but on second thought I will clear up all my accounts in Berlin before I leave it. Cancel the above arrangement therefore and be kind enough to do as follows. Get those eight pounds from Mr Edmondson3 add 12 of your own to them and send me the £20 exactly as you did before, by two successive posts.4 I should be obliged to you if you would do it promptly, as I want to get away from Berlin as soon as I possibly can.
Magnus is off to Paris today.
Yours affectionately | John
Put a clean stamp upon the enclosed5 and send it to post for me.
Would Mr Edmondson wish me to purchase some diagrams for him? It is on this subject that I am writing to Playfair. If he has 65 boys I would advise him to say yes, if not, no.
