My Dear Sir
I have just received a sheet of the Royal Society’s Proceedings which contains just enough of the commencement of a paper of yours on the Vibration of Metals,1 to show that you have obtained results in some respects very different from those which I published long ago.2 I never was well satisfied with that paper of mine. Though the experiments were made with due deliberation, the composition of the paper took place I recollect under the pressure of a very arduous engagement which prevented me from resuming the subject as I hoped to do.
I shall be particularly obliged if you will give me an early opportunity of becoming acquainted with your results.
I remain dear Sir | Yours faithfully | James D Forbes
