Mon cher Mr. Tyndal
Je vous envoie le numéro du Cosmos dans le quel j’ai reproduit votre leçon si intéressante sur les vibrations des corps chauds; si vous avez la bonté comme le fait Mr. Faraday de m’envoyer de bonne heure à l’adresse du Cosmos les rédactions scientifiques que vous publiez, je les traduirais sur le champ;
My dear Mr. Tyndal
I am sending you the Cosmos1 issue in which I reproduced your extremely interesting lesson on the vibrations of hot bodies.2 If you would be so kind, as Mr. Faraday does, to send me to the address of Cosmos, early on, the scientific essays that you publish so that I would be able to translate them right away.
My letter also has another purpose. I witnessed with much delight that your name appeared among the directors and editors of the Philosophical Magazine,3 and I thought that I could ask you about setting up an exchange of Cosmos with the Philosophical. I would be very satisfied with it, and I think that I may have some rights to this exchange since I am sending Sir David Brewster4 the Cosmos free of charge, ever since its founding. Please plead my case with the owners of your journal, and please send me a favourable answer.
I am sending you my best wishes | Your very humble servant | Father F. Moigno | 22 March 1854 | 18 rue de l’ancienne comédie
