Leipzig d. 27 [July] | 1854.
Hochgeehrter Herr!
G. M. Leyser | Inspector a. d. Univ. | Verte
Leipzig, 27 [July]1 | 1854.
Esteemed Sir!
I have received from Herr Prof. Wilh. Weber your honourable assignment2 to construct an instrument for the demonstration of diamagnetic polarity.3 Because the instrument is to be made more sensitive than the one described by Herr Prof. Weber, Herr Prof. Weber wrote to me and created a drawing according to which 2 magnets beside mirrors and 2 wire coils will be used. The instrument differs therefore considerably from the previous one; but it will be, as expected, significantly more sensitive.
Such an apparatus would amount to 60 [Rthl.].– The larger telescope and scale cost 50 [Rthl.].– Altogether, such an apparatus would cost 110 [Rthl.]; Naturally, its usability would be guaranteed because the instrument would be tested before dispatch by the in-house physicist or also by Prof. Wilh. Weber himself.
I will therefore look forward to your decision and sign respectfully:
J. M. Leyser4 | Inspector at the Univ. | Verte5

[July]: while part of the date is cut off, it must be July as it follows from, and references, letter 0958.
I have received from … honourable assignment: see letter 0958. Tyndall must have requested from Weber an apparatus for the detection of diamagnetic polarity similar to one described in one of Weber’s papers (see letter 0958, n. 6).
diamagnetic polarity: see letter 0958, n. 3.

Verte: not identified. Possibly Latin to mean ‘turn over’, but there does not appear to be another page to the letter.
