Most honoured Herr Tyndal
For the experiment which I had the honour of showing you in Paris1 one needs two condensers, one with a very large surface of approximately 40 square centimetres and a very small one, one touches the large one with a metal, and after this one picks up a plate and brings it into contact with the small one, I must still remain in London until Wednesday the 25th, for the administration2 wants to work with the new apparatus3 until then, and until then am entirely at your service. My foot is all right and I could, if you wish, come to you. I give you my most humble compliments and remain with all respect
Your very humble servant ǀ Ruhmkorff.

in Paris: Tyndall saw Ruhmkorff in Paris, noting the visit in his journal entry of 5 September 1853: ’Saw many experiments, those with the induction apparatus are particularly beautiful’ (Journal, JT/2/13b/622).
the administration: not identified.
the new apparatus: likely Ruhmkorff’s induction coil (see letter 0864, n. 1). See also letter 0884.
