My dear Sir

I find that Mr David Forbes is to read a really important paper1 on the foliation of rocks in Scotland & Norway the gist of which is to show the gneiss, mica schist & crystalline limestone have their foliation, as a general rule parallel to the planes of stratification, what I have always thought to be the rule tho’ not without exception.

I expect Mr Darwin2 to be present & should be very glad if you could give me the favour of your company at dinner at the Geological Club3 at Clunns Hotel4 Covent Garden at ½ past 5 ock & go with us to the Socy5 Wedy 31st Jany.

Believe me | sincerely yrs | Chas Lyell
