My dear Sir,
Your letter addressed to the Ordnance1 has been forwarded to me. A letter of mine2 which you will have already received will have answered several of your questions. There are only 38 Candidates who have offered to be examined in the Natural Sciences (an unfortunately comprehensive term which I hope to be able to interpret with more precision by the 23rd).3
The questions are to be divided into sections of two or three questions in each section; and the Candidates limited to answering one question only in a section.
Thus the questions may be made to cover a large surface whilst the number of answers may be limited within a manageable compass. If you came prepared with 8 sections of questions for the morning paper and as many for the evening; two of these sections in each paper being on the elements of chemistry; it will abundantly suffice.
Yours faithfully | Henry Moseley
The reading of the Candidates has received no special direction to this examination.4
