Royal Observatory Greenwich | 1855 August 15
Dear Sir
I have to thank you for some papers of great value,1 which I found here on my return from Scotland.
In my science I find it necessary to make a little dash of speculation sometimes. Allow me to send you a paper2 of which I have just received copies and which may bear in some degree that character
I am, my dear Sir, | Faithfully yours | G B Airy
Dr Tyndall

some papers of great value: presumably some of Tyndall’s publications, including his Bakerian Lecture (see letter 1029, n. 2). In his Journal for 16 August, Tyndall wrote: ‘He [Airy] says on his return from Scotland he found some papers of mine, of great value, waiting for him’ (RI MS JT/2/13c/782).
send you a paper: On 16 August Tyndall recorded in his Journal that he had ‘Received a note from Airy accompanying his last Memoir’ (RI MS JT/2/13c/782). The memoir has not been identified.
