From Edward Hughes   28th Sept. 1855

Greenwich Hospital | 28th Sept. 1855.

Dear Sir,

I regret exceedingly that you should have any cause of complaint about the manner in which your valuable contributions to my “Reading Lessons”1 have been printed. The corrections2 which you pointed out to me I instantly had made, as you will see by the accompanying copy,3 but unfortunately my printer had struck off so many copies of the first impression that I could not afford to cancel them. The remaining copies of the impression however contain a list of ‘Errata’ at the end of each book, and are moreover differently bound.

You will find that the second edition of the First Book is not only revised but enlarged.

So anxious am I that there should be no cause of complaint, that I have not yet sent either of the books anywhere for review, and if your friend4 will kindly wait a short time he can obtain the volume in the form in which I now send it to you, and in which I am about to send it to the Periodicals and Papers.

Should you discover any errors in your articles in the Second Book5 I will thank you to point them out to me, and I will have them corrected immediately.

I am dear Sir | Yours faithfully | E. Hughes.

Dr. John Tyndall F.R.S.
