From William Thomson

My dear Sir,

I have taken pains to make the enclosed letter1 clear for the printers; and I trust you will excuse its form, as I have been under the necessity of finishing it in a steamer (at this moment shaking excessively) or else of letting it miss a post which I am anxious not to do, in order that it may if possible be in time for publication in the forthcoming Number of the Philosophical Magazine.

With the compliments of the season | I remain | Yours very truly | William Thomson

RI MS JT/1/T/32

enclosed letter: letter 1176
