From Oscar Schulze   den 4ten Febr. 1857

Paulinzelle, den 4ten Febr. 1857.

Hochgeehrtester Herr Professor!

Oscar Schulze | Addr. Joh. Fr. Schulze & Söhne

Paulinzelle,2 4th Febr. 1857.

Most esteemed Herr Professor!

Through this I have the honour of advising you most humbly that some time ago I posted to your esteemed address an apparatus to represent sound waves,3 which you should shortly have in your possession. I ask you to accept the apparatus as a sign of my deep respect and my thanks and thereby to give me proof of your continuing goodwill and your friendship.

I have endeavoured to perfect the apparatus further in some respects, particularly in that, besides the interference wave above the lid of the apparatus, one always also sees the two component primary waves. In addition, I have strived to simplify the apparatus as much as possible, in order to be able to produce it more cheaply, especially for grammar schools, modern general secondary schools, etc. 4 I can now sell the apparatus starting at 40 Reichsthaler.5

I now wish very much that the apparatus will meet with your approval in its new form. You will no doubt still be familiar with its use, but as may be the case, you will soon find the necessary information about it in Poggendorffs Annalen.6 If you can do anything to recommend it, then I am convinced that you will gladly do this, and give you my very many thanks for this in advance.

My elder brother7 has just been in England on business to do with organ building and has concluded [an arrangement] in Doncaster8 about the building of a large 60-voice organ.9 I shall perhaps also go there some time soon on the same account, and shall then not fail to pay my respects to you in London.

With the wish that you may remain very well, I give you my best compliments and sign | with full respect | your very humble

Oscar Schulze | c/o Joh. Fr. Schulze & Sons
