To James David Forbes   7th March 1857.

Royal Institution 7th March 1857.

My dear Sir

The paper to which you allude1 has already been ‘referred’ by the Council of the Royal Society, but whether it is to be printed in the Transactions or not must depend upon the decision of the referees. If it should be printed I shall take the earliest opportunity of forwarding you a copy of it.

I would, if permitted, express here the earnest hope that should the paper be published you will find in it no expression at variance with the Philosophic Spirit in which a question of the kind ought to be discussed, nor inconsistent with the fullest recognition upon my part of the great services which your researches upon glaciers have rendered to science

Believe me dear Sir | very faithfully yours | John Tyndall
