From George Biddell Airy   1857 April 17

London, S.E. | 1857 April 17

My dear Sir

It is very kind in you to bear in mind my request.1 —Of the days which you mention, Monday is not good for me (it is a very busy day at the Observatory2), but Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, are perfectly free. I would therefore provisionally propose Tuesday 28th. And, as you have not specified any hour, I would provisionally say that an early hour is best for me—the earlier the better. But I beg you to consider these as truly provisional, and as subject to alteration for the slightest reason.

Will you bear in your friendly recollection, that the whole subject is practically new to me, and therefore that the instruction to be derived from an experiment of a low order will be, to me, a very valuable introduction to the higher.

I am, my dear Sir, | Very truly yours | G. B. Airy
