Royal Observatory Greenwich | 1857 April 28
Dear Sir
I am sorry to hear of your illness.1 This weather is most unfavorable for any thing like bronchitis, and I should be sorry to hold the shadow of an engagement2 over you during its continuance.
If in better weather and in your better health an opportunity of meeting should occur, I should be grateful for it.
I am, dear Sir, | Yours very faithfully | G B Airy
Dr. Tyndall | &c &c &c

to hear of your illness: Tyndall wrote in his journal for 26 April 1857: ‘“The cold smote my unprotected throat.” This morning I felt the effects from it. The boundary between throat and chest was sore and irritated.’ He noted that it worsened throughout the day and his entry for the following day stated that he was in bed all day (Journal, JT/2/13c/929).
the shadow of an engagement: see letter 1380.
